  • Gut Feel
    , September 19th, 2008 at 10:58 am

During extraordinary market conditions, traditional rules sometimes get pushed aside in favor of “gut feel” trading. But risk management never gets lost in the equation. Do not let bad habits develop because you make money in a trade or two which goes against the “rules”.

I uploaded a video of some trades in BGC and BWP (sold at 22). The video can be viewed by logging into the “bonus tab” at THE BOOK website. The username and password to access the video are on page 184, remember to use lower case to login.

  • 32 Dollars In A Minute
    , September 18th, 2008 at 4:55 pm

I was short shares of Baidu.com (BIDU) earlier in the day and cashed in for a profit way too early (or so it seemed) as the stock continued another 10 points lower. I was focused on other stocks later in the day while the market rallied, but I just noticed the move in BIDU, it rallied $32 in the final minute of trading! It also finished the day more than $50 higher than my repurchase of the short. Gotta be quick in this market.

  • The Bottom Is In!
    , September 18th, 2008 at 8:39 am

“That’s it! The Bottom is in”
If that is how you feel each time the market gaps higher in a primary downtrend, you need to learn to relax and be more patient. If you miss “the bottom” there will still be plenty of opportunities to make long money on a bounce in this bear market. We remain in a high risk environment and bottoms take time to form. Even if you miss a big rally, do not let your thoughts be “I knew it, if I had just…” That is hindsight which is devoid of the economic and psychological pain of the many times you might be wrong in your attempt to buy at rock bottom prices. Only the most aggressive and disciplined traders should be involved in this market.
